Southern Comfort

Day 322 (Dia trescientos viente dos) - Monday (Lunes)

We begin with a race pic from Saturday night, The Roswell 1/2 marathon Alien run that I forgot to upload, gal in pink in our daughter.

Now onto other news, grilling for supper last night, corn on the cob with steak tips, in the pouring rain holding an umbrella. Since we have been in Panama there really isn't a lot of foods that we have missed except for steak and corn on the cob. The cobs are dry and the steak is so lean that it has no taste so we decide not to partake, so on our trips to the US, BAM, we make it happen.

Americas favorite pasttime

Day 320 (Dia trescientos viente) - Saturday(Sabado) - Atlanta, GA

It has been awhile since I have been to a ballgame in the states so last night I was invited to an Atlanta Braves game by a friend of my daughters. We started off at the 755 sky club (named for Hank Aarons number of home runs I learned), the off to our seats to the right of home plate 6 rows from the field OUTSTANDING.

The home team won in walk off style in the bottom of the 11th when my new favorite Brave, Juan Francisco, delivered the hit that put the home crowd into a frenzy.

Thats the report - plus we heard from the panama dog sitter that all is well back in panama.

Hasta luego

Price match aisle 3

Day 253 Monday (Lunes) - Panama City

Love sharing cost of items as it is always a major factor when moving some place different.

The items pictured cost $3.20 in total. Purchased at a store called the number two meat store on Porras ave.

20 cents each orange

67 cents per lb of onions

1.20 per lb of tomato

As an added note, my lovely wife needed a new crown on one of her teeth, in the state of Florida this would run about $1400, here in Panama $750.

Sand fighting

Day 211 Monday (Lunes) - Playa Coronado

No matter where you live boys will be boys. These two kids come to the beach with a soccer ball, kick it around for a half hour or so, then decide to roll around in the sand and cover each other with it.

Ahhhhhhhh to be young again. I hate having sand all up in my shorts now, yes I am aging.

What a gas

Day 207 Thursday (Jueves) - Playa Coronado

We have been here now for 207 days and we finally ran out of gas in our tank. In the place we live, like most, we use a gas tank similar to what many folks use to attach a grill to.

Here's the kick. Our gas tank is 25 pounds and cost $4.85 to fill. If I remember correctly a 10-12 pound tank in the USA costs no less than $19.95.

I love this stuff. No wonder we can retire early, live in paradise, and not worry about our day to day expenses like we used to.

Where am I?

Day 201 Friday (Viernes) - Playa Coronado

I always thought that this was one of, if not the best location views on the Pacific Beach area. I know I have posted it before but it never gets boring seeing what beauty God has created for us to enjoy. So I am sharing it now with you.

A not so typical Wednesday.

Day 199 Wednesday (Miercoles) - Playa Coronado

Private piano classes today. I certainly do not play but our friend certainly had a great way to express herself on the keyboard. She was expressing herself playing on a Galaleo digital and it was awesome. She played as we all sat, listened, drank wine, and watched the tide roll in. Our friend Silvard was the host - visit Silvard at www.silvard.com.

After we went to an open house and continued our Wednesday afternoon wine drinking with plenty of snacks. Hey life is tough here in Panama but we are willing to rough it.

Last weekend of summer

Day 188 Saturday (Sabado) - Playa Coronado

Here in Panama we are officially at the end of the summer or dry season, and this year we are also right in the middle of Easter.

This is the last long weekend for many months and the folks started flooding the interior of the country on Thursday, especially along the beaches.

Friday was one of 3 days throughout the year that no one can purchase alcohol anywhere legally in the country as it was Good Friday. Yet it did not stop folks from stocking up on Thursday.

The scene in Coronado where we live is as expected, all three grocery stores are packed with people and traffic is just plain bad. Police are everywhere to keep us all safe.

Since banks are all closed Friday and Saturday; the lines on Thursday were 50 people deep at times, just to get in the bank. Yours truly wanted to capture a picture of the banking scene for my blog, but as soon as I snapped the photo, bam, police were on me to give them my camara to delete it. I guess that was a no-no.

Tomorrow should be pretty interesting trying to get back into the city as everyone will head back at once. Kind of like Thanksgiving in the states. As for us, we will watch it all unfold.

Happy Easter or ¡Felices Pascuas

Jellyfish everywhere

Day 187 (Good) Friday (Viernes) - Playa Coronado

We walk the beach almost daily and we always see a jellyfish washed up here or there, but today they were washed up in abundance. We are thinking the seasonal change that is occurring could be part of the reason.

Well here are a few tidbits to explore.

Jellyfish are amongst the most abundant inhabitants of marine waters. Most jellyfish sting and are equipped with stingers to procure food and protect themselves. While jellyfish do not actively attack humans, when their tentacles come in contact with human flesh, their stingers are released as part of their natural defense mechanism.  Even though most jellyfish stings are completely harmless to humans and do not pose a serious risk, it is important to know the basic first aid required for a jellyfish sting before you step into jellyfish infested waters to swim, surf or dive.  Please be aware of the specific species of jellyfish known to inhabit the waters you are entering, so that you can be prepared with the treatment required in case of a jellyfish sting.  Read more: http://www.jellyfishfacts.net/jellyfish-safety.html#ixzz1rHwQTg3c

On the lighter side

Day 177 Tuesday (Martes) - Playa Coronado

Wanted to share some shelling pic today. It is always a fun pasttime strolling the beach searching for that perfect shell. We now have a nice collection to share so each time we walk the beach it gets more challenging to find something unique.

Enjoy the shells

Beach walking

Day 173 Friday (Viernes) - Pedasi

Always nice walking the beach as you never know what you will come across. Today we saw this colorful snail walking out of its shell and just waiting for a photo op.

The weather has been perfect here as we are fast approaching wet season, so strolling the beach in a new area has been fun while we still have all day of sun. Once the rains come we will have to shorten our long beach walks.

Let the party continue

Day 170 Tuesday (Martes) - Playa Coronado

The Panama Woman just can't get enough. From her days working the farm carnival in Illionis she couldn't wait to get her hands on that cotton candy machine.

Look at that expert twirl.
