To continue from yesterdays blog, we had a great training session with the head of Latin America & Caribbean. There were a total of 11 of us from a few different RE/MAX offices here in Panama.

Panama Real Estate Day
Day 248 Wednesday(Miercoles) - Panama City
Today was meeting day for all of us associated with RE/MAX here in Panama. 4 hours of training in the morning so my blogging is late today. I will fill you in tomorrow on some specifics but a quick overview is at hand.
We were graced with the presence of the head of RE/MAX Latin America & Caribbean - Ricardo Cardenas. No trade secrets just a good solid training session. It is always good to brainstorm ideas so we all can succeed.
Panama is a special place and letting the rest of the world know this has always been our challenge. So maybe tomorrow I can help fill in some blanks.

A trip to the Credit Union.....
Day 247 Tuesday (Martes) - Panama City
Time to make a deposit in our Credit Union here in Panama. If you have missed previous blogs, the Credit Unions here in Panama pay great rates on your savings. You do have savings, right?
So, a simple Money Market account with a $10,000 initial deposit yields you 5.5%
A CD of 6 months and a deposit of at least $25,000 gets you 6.25%
A CD of 1 year and a deposit of at least $100,000 get you 7%
You can go all the way up to a 5 year CD with at least $100,000 and get yourself an 8.5% rate for the entire term. Who needs the stock market volatility when you can earn a great fixed rate on your money here in Panama. Panama has some of the safest banking rules in the world, so you need to ask yourself a question, Why do I NOT have any money invested in these Credit Unions?
Your stock broker will not tell you about this as he/she doesn't even know about it, they are all cut from the same brainwashing scenarios of putting your hard earned cash into what they say is good, I know, I was one of them for a few years. I was trained and earned my Series 7 Brokers License and told my good clients the same thing. Was never allowed to think out of the box, so I didn't. Boy did I waste a lot of time and money sitting on the table not knowing about how the rest of the world (in certain places like Panama) were treating their clients with rates like above.

The day has finally come
Day 246 Monday (Lunes) - Panama City
If you have ever invested in a pre-construction property you have probably experienced delays, no different here in Panama. We have been involved in a project for over 5 years now and finally we are having our walk-through inspection today. This has been a long overdue situation yet from the outside this building is beautiful. It is called Park Loft in the San Francisco area of Panama City. Now hopefully within a couple of hours we will see that it is as beautiful in the inside as the outside, make arrangements for our final payment, and get delivery of this top floor (36) condo.
Wish us luck. We will be looking for a buyer as it is for sale immediately.

Who, what and where is Panama

The colors look nice, don't you think?. It is interesting to me that most, if not all, democratic societies have the Red, White, and Blue in their flags. Someone tell me the history on that!!!!1
Quick report on where Panama began courtesy of the CIA World Factbook.
Explored and settled by the Spanish in the 16th century, Panama broke with Spain in 1821 and joined a union of Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela - named the Republic of Gran Colombia. When the latter dissolved in 1830, Panama remained part of Colombia. With US backing, Panama seceded from Colombia in 1903 and promptly signed a treaty with the US allowing for the construction of a canal and US sovereignty over a strip of land on either side of the structure (the Panama Canal Zone). The Panama Canal was built by the US Army Corps of Engineers between 1904 and 1914. In 1977, an agreement was signed for the complete transfer of the Canal from the US to Panama by the end of the century. Certain portions of the Zone and increasing responsibility over the Canal were turned over in the subsequent decades. With US help, dictator Manuel NORIEGA was deposed in 1989. The entire Panama Canal, the area supporting the Canal, and remaining US military bases were transferred to Panama by the end of 1999. In October 2006, Panamanians approved an ambitious plan (estimated to cost $5.3 billion) to expand the Canal. The project, which began in 2007 and could double the Canal's capacity, is expected to be completed in 2014-15.

Opportunities to buy and sell
Day 243 Friday (Viernes) - Panama City
Went to an open house last night for newly opened companies in the Panama City area, some had booths established in Albrook Mall, while others still worked out of their homes. It was a small event with about 30 vendors showing and selling their wares/services. It was a nice way to have these new stores introduced to the general public and get noticed. The event was held at the Courtyard by Marriott just outside the MultiPlaza Mall and was from 2-9pm.
Take a look at some of the things offered.
